My Lane Bryant experience

When I reached a size 14 pants and a size large shirt I vowed that even though Lane Bryant may have cute clothes sometimes, I never would shop there again. I was ecstatic that I didn't NEED to!

I should have stuck to my promise.

I was on the hunt for a shirt today to wear to The Pool tonight for this party we are going to. I was walking around the outlets at The Walk in AC and I was having NO LUCK. So, as I passed Lane Bryant I just peeked in the window. What did I see staring back at me but this friggen ADORABLE zebra print halter top ...sooo I made an exception and went in the store. I didn't even know what their smallest size was but I knew that I needed the smallest size in there for sure. I flipped through the rack with this shirt that I wanted so bad and the smallest I could find was a 16/18 - too big.

As I was about to leave, I decided to check the size on the manikin - 14/16 - So I undressed the manikin. lol.

As I was doing so, some man walked up to me (a customer) and said.....

and I quote...

"Is this a store for big people or something??"

0_O <---my "are you serious" face

Did he just ask me that???!

So I calmly took a breath and responded to him tell him that yes, it was a store for larger women. He then asked me, "Well where can I get something for a petite woman??"

*Deep breath once again because at this point I was ready to let someone have it...aside from his question, I was hot and sweaty and carrying a 10lb bag around..and just plain old annoyed*

I firmly answered "I don't know. I have never been a petite woman" and turned away.

Well I ended up buying the shirt because it was super cute!! But I am going back to my vow to not shop in the "store for big people" as he would like to call it. Thank you, sir for reminding me of my promise to myself.

Jerk.

LOL anyway.. hope everyone is having a great day!!! I'm getting pretty tonight for a networking party at The Pool with my honey.

*P.S. I don't know how mothers go out every weekend and leave their children home.. I feel so bad that I have been away from my baby so much the last couple days for one reason or another! I can't wait to be back in my regular routine with my princess*

Good for you for keeping your cool. I do not like Lane Bryant, but I do like Women Within and shop online there a lot. I hate the label of it being a store for big people. Do we walk in a gap and say is this the store for skinny people. I love this post by the way.. lol

You definitely made the right choice in buying the shirt, it looks really great on you!

I had a similar experience with a bitchy sales assistant in Topshop (I don't know if you have it in the states, its a high street store over here that doesn't cater to women over a size 16...thats a US size 12, if I'm not mistaken). As I was in there with my friend (not bothering to look for anything because I know nothing would fit anyway) we saw a girl walk up to the sales assistant and ask 'do you have this dress in a size 18?' - to which the woman responded 'we don't carry plus sizes, try the maternity section' and then walked off! The girl was obviously really upset and I was livid, even though it wasn't aimed at me! Sometimes people can be so rude and thoughtless!! Well done for staying calm, I don't think I would have been able to!

The nerve of some people. Some people just don't know when to keep their mouth shut and mind their own. Way to handle it!
